08:28 ET Kurlak Upgrades Merrill Lynch analyst Tom Kurlak upgrades AMD from "neutral" to "accumulate" for both near and long-term and raises 1999 earnings estimate from $1.00 to $1.55 per share. CNBC also reports he upgrades Newbridge Networks (NN) and sets $28 to $30 price target for NN following in-line earnings after the close yesterday.

08:24 ET Novell (NOVL) 17 3/8: Business recovery continues at networking software company as it reports earnings of $0.12 a share, 3 cents ahead of expectations, and revenue growth accelerates to 10.5%. CNBC reports that Goldman Sachs upgrades the stock from "market performer" to "market outperformer." See Story Stocks for more.

08:19 ET Intuit (INTU) 59 7/8: After the close yesterday, software and sort of Internet company reported a classic Internet-style pro-forma loss of $0.45 a share, which is a penny better than analysts were expecting. Operating loss was actually $0.83 per share, due to amortization charges on a GAAP basis. Revenues up a decent but uninspiring 16.7%. See Story Stocks for more.
