Dave...my error, apologies. It definitely IS a vertical intergration. However, it brings to mind the predictions of yesterdays - that only a handful will emerge as a force, the rest will be swallowed up or caese to exist. Portal merging with YHOO may not much sense but IMO MSFT+YHOO merger does..for the competition would narrow down and there would definitely be some additional eyeballs in the pool.

I agree with you here - we have priced ourselves out of the market. SweetPete has coined a phrase called virtual acquisition - a tightly knit business alliance. I believe this would alleviate a lot of pain which otherwise may be experienced by MSFT and YHOO. Drawing a parallel from history, its like the Allies and Axis forces during the WW-2.

If the feds break up MSFT (thats a big if), by the time a free wheeling MSFT is in a position to do anything , there would be much water flown under the bridge. The acquisition (real or virtual) makes more sense then, than it does now.

JMHO,

Your opinions being so diverse to my own, it is always a pleasure trying to understand your rationale. What do you think.
