How do you spin something off that you don't even own?

My understanding is that Online Merchant was developed by Stumpworld and that Alpha is only publishing it for them. I believe that this is the same agreement they had with Kurzweil and have(?) with that German company who does the Flight sim stuff.

Any way the posts on the Alpha Message board are pretty damning. Obviously Alpha is incapable of supporting an Internet product. It indicates to me that Alpha doesn't know anything about the Internet. From this there is only one conclusion. WebFiler never had a chance because Alpha didn't know the Internet. Softquad, under the leadership of Alpha embodied in the Rabins, never had a chance. (I hope too much damage wasn't done as I will surely buy into Softquad Software if they ever go public again) and finally, Online Merchant, the last of Alpha's foray's into the Internet world, also doesn't have a chance. Technical excellence is not a barrier for failure at Alpha. In other words, it doesn't matter how good the Internet product is, Alpha's incompetence to recognize, support and understand the Internet dooms any Internet related product from the start.
