Why do you say that? So he can bring on some foreign players and make them U.S. citizens before their first match. I think Bruce will show the world that american born players can compete with international teams. It might take 6 months, but he will do it.

As good as some of the players are here in the US, (as far as being physically fit is concern), they need the experience of a coach such as Bora to really make a turn around.

That is to say, to convert a physically fit group of players into a world class and winning team, given current conditions, it will certainly take months...

The best example I can give you is last year's performance in France by the US team...

A promising young team, indeed with some experienced players... yet with an absolute moron as head coach....

I am convinced the US could have done a lot better than what they did.

Bora is like a magician, he did incredible things with the Mexican, Costa Rican, the US, and the Nigerian national teams.

For additional commentary in reference to the world cup and the head Moron of the US team, take a look here...

George at one point wanted to revive the thread... we need a tournament to make it fun as we did last year....

I will confess that I have stopped following soccer, (other than the World Cup every four years), however, George is a very keen follower to this day.

Compete is one thing, beat is another. American born players are fine As Long As they can compete in a high level league. MLS is not a high level league and won't be for a while (assuming of course it does not fold). As long as these "American born players" compete in European leagues regularly the American national team will get better.

IMHO, you are way way too optimistic. This is not a matter of months, but a matter of years (if not decades). Certainly having janitor Sampson at the helm set us back years (if not decades). I was hoping Bora gets hired back and given a long term contract and complete control of the US national team (wishful thinking). Arena was check mated big time in last year's MLS final by his former assistant and then, instead of being a gracious loser, he started complaining about the referrees instead of admitting Chicago Fire was much better and deserved to win.

In the games so far with Arena as a coach I liked the fact that all players played hard for 90 minutes. But when it counted (against Mexico recently) playing hard is not enough. Anyway, I hope I am proven wrong. I also hope US makes it to the next World Cup...as far as winning one, well....nice to dream, isn't it?
