It is my understanding that a broker has to pass a test and be licensed in every individual state that they have accounts in. For this reason American accounts have been dropped by the thousands over the last 3 years. I know one broker who does it and it is a very big hassle.
The rest have given up. Not sure about the discount houses. I believe Greenline got into trouble a few years ago by advertising in the US.
