CR,

I was kind of kidding with the bribe stuff. But anyone who's ever done business in Asia knows what I'm talking about--it's pretty prevalent and accepted out there.

As Gary pointed out, it appears that Newbridge has the core and Ascend has the edge of the network deployment taking place out there. This makes perfect sense to me, and would be something I would do too if I wanted to save money. Ascend's products are clearly superior, but their value chiefly resides in the CBX500 and BSTDX9000, where IP Navigator and Ascend's multi-service capabilities are hosted.

As far as the core, you can use anyone's ATM core switch as long as it's compliant with the ATM Forum's standards. Yea, Newbridge's switches should be a bit slower, but other than performance, the overall network will have the same basic capabilities as if the GX550 or CBX500 were deployed in the core.

BTW, I do not think this is a very big contract, for Ascend or Newbridge. I would guess in the neighborhood of $10-15M for each. Above all, I do not think it warrants a 17% increase in NN stock price.
