Investments Ltd. of Montreal, and partners has declared an
investment interest exceeding 10 percent in Sterne Stackhouse Inc.
of Calgary, effective October 30th, 1998.

Sterne Stackhouse Inc. (SSI) is a computer software company which
has developed the Labrador(R) suite of programs for internal and
remote generic data retrieval. Built using Labrador(R),
Petro-LAB(TM) has been developed and sold to many petroleum
companies. Petro-LAB(TM) retrieves from all types of corporate
datasets, ranging from geo-technical data to financial data.

SSI has just released the first Java(TM) version of Labrador(R) to
enable the modelling and retrieval of generic data stored in
relational databases. SSI is currently negotiating the use of
Java Labrador(R) for industries outside of the petroleum sector.

SSI trades on the Alberta Stock Exchange using the SSX symbol.
