LCD is still much more expensive than CRT, but the delta is coming down pretty quickly. I have seen 15" LCDs under a grand now. I'm not sure what EL is, there are a couple of new technologies that are still under development, one called FED, don't remember the acronym for the other, but it is akin to using a bunch of tiny mirrors to create the image. I'm surprised about the comment in regard to lack of enthusiasm! I'd certainly prefer going all LCD. Every new TV show I seem to tune in now has those spiffy LCD's on camera. I'm guessing if this new capacity in the US comes online that it should help lower prices that much faster.
