ATI Technologies is ATYTF in the USA - Note: ATY's purchase of Chromatics gives ATY the technology to compete with Broadcom's "packaging" of 3 functions onto 1 chip for the set-top box market.

Since the contracts were already awarded for this 'cycle' or 'round' by the next 'round' of buying ATY will have a similar capability I was informed.

ATY management is smart. And they did win the contract with General Instruments, the #1 set-top box maker (Broadcom won the #2 or #3 company).

I have investments in BOTH companies. They are both leaders in the set-top box Line of Business (LOB).

With ATY you also get the world lead in graphics chips AND ATY just won a contract with SUNW, for the network market - this is very similar to DELL's strategy a few years back - go after the corporate / server market vs. consumer market. Graphics for the corporate market is UNTAPPED. Think of the many legacy and main/mini frames out there and how non-graphical the info is.

Just something to think about - they're both great companies - hopefully ATY command the same multiple as Broadcom !! They were wasting time in Canada.

Jay, here's the new ATYTF thread - use it and read the top description - I thnik it's good to own both companies. Overlap in one area, but also get other areas that don;t overlap.
