The leading smart radio companies are Analog Devices, Harris, Airnet, Watkins
Johnson, and Ron Carney's Tantivy, to name a few. Smart waveforms (orthogonal
CDMA) and turbo algorithms will allow Qualcomm to create 2 megabit modems next
year for their pdQ cellphones, which also contain a Palm3 organizer. Within the next
couple of years, you will be able to plug your notebook into your CDMA cellphone and
get a T-1 anywhere in SprintPCS territory.

O.T. - OPEC. Well, I guess the concept of "all cartels are doomed to eventual failure" is looking a little bit better.

(Although, DeBeers is still managing to force (some of) us to pay far too much for crystalline carbon).

OPEC Meeting Ends With No Deal

Filed at 8:16 a.m. EST

By The Associated Press

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- OPEC ended a rancorous year-end meeting
Thursday without even a minimum agreement to extend oil production cuts,
saying it would review the situation again in March.

OPEC secretary-general Rilwanu Lukman said the organization will take
whatever measures are necessary at that time to try to boost oil prices, but
there will be no policy changes in the meantime.

The reason for the failure to take action wasn't immediately announced, but
the official meeting already had been pushed back from Wednesday because
of the internal split.

Analysts had said that extending production cuts to the end of 1999 was the
bare minimum action needed to prop up rock-bottom oil prices, flirting with
12-year lows.

Some delegates had voiced hope a 2.6 million barrel-a-day cut that the
Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries set in June to run for six
months could be extended to the end of 1999.

OPEC did decide to realign its annual meeting schedule, and will meet from
now on in March and September rather than June and November, its
secretary-general said afterward.

Cartel president Obaid bin Saif Al-Nasseri, who also is the United Arab
Emirates' oil minister, acknowledged in an opening speech to delegates that a
''strong bearish sentiment has set in'' on the world market.

1. It should not be forgotten just how close the Germans were to gaining decisive advantage in WWII. And how much stronger they would have been had they not had Hitler as a leader or at least involved in any the general staff.

2. The central theme of the French for the last 45 years has been to get a 'gang' together in much the same way as a cowardly schoolyard bully does. They knew from the start the close relationship between the UK and US and they have worked just as hard as Saddam has, if not harder, to neutralize that friendship.

One of the most important elements that the French needed was a common European foreign policy and they have almost got precisely that.

Make no mistake that is the strategic target of the French to eventually isolate the US. They have almost nuetralized the UK and are therefore a considerable way towards their goal.

Just watch and see.

Regards,

L

(How Y'all Doin'? Back from the outback) Well, let's have a little reality check. The English are located in Europe, they belong to EU and they have a pro-european socialist government. And they truly despise the right wing stuff, look what happened to Pinochet.
