Thank's Lynn - So AOL's plan is to be everywhere consumers use the Internet, a strategy the company calls AOL Anywhere. I believe SUNW has a similar vision - "The Network is the computer".

According to AOL "...as people turn increasingly to the Internet for programming and services, ICQ could steal center stage even from Windows software, weakening Microsoft's dominance of the computer industry..."

Now I see how they plan to fit it all together. AOL will be the main "portal" with the "smart" JAVA software and each subscriber will have a JINI enabled machine w/ WEB browser (and JVM). Users can then connect through to other internet sites, end-users, e-commerce stores, JINI devises, etc. and (1) run specific applications, (2) conduct user specific transactions or (3) control and access JINI devises. AOL can "out source" more complicated functions and charge a fee to the subscriber on a (1) per transaction or (2) per application basis.

Think of all the specific types of applications AOL could bring to their clients. This provides them an end-to-end strategy for servicing these accounts.

By working together both AOL and SUNW now have the technology to deliver these Network applications and devises to all the AOL subscribers (both large and small). I believe this will be a huge and growing business for each company.
