I think NEC and Panasonic are now Nokia's toughest competitors in Europe. They are putting up a genuine fight and look currently better than Motorola. So far their brands are weak among phone buyers, but they do have great brands in other sectors and that could spill over. Especially dangerous are the new Japanese GSM 900/1800 phones - they are undercutting Nokia's equivalent model quite steeply. It's one of the reasons Nokia has to bring out new models in 1999.
