Just a room for discussions here. I appreciate your comments and opinion. Lucent, Alcatel and some of the other preprietory voice equipment manufacturers are very much afraid of the Data comm types using open protocols such as TCP/IP. This is not my opinion, this is a fact.in about 2 years you don't need switches/PBXs any more, nor didicated T1's, trunks, muxes..etc for voice. you can do all of that over your data networks via open protocols. This is what likes of Lucent see and are afraid of. LU will try to dominate the data market there is no question about that. and they won't do that with their cajun swtich either. Coms is a great company but lacks the size and the influence that NT/Bay, Cisco and possible Lucent/Ascend would have. In this industry sometimes companies merge as a defensive move against other mergers. I will also bet you that Cabletron will be bought out as well. Anyway I have not heard any rumors about a take over or a merger I am just trying to guess the next moves of a CEO in an industry which I am very familiar with and hear other valuable opinions like yours.
