Interest in Biometric Identification to be acquired Biometric Security Corp BMS Shares issued 20,834,412 Nov 30 close $0.19 Tue 1 Dec 98 News Release Mr. Patrick McCleery reports Biometric Security has an agreement to acquire 45 per cent of Diometric Identification, a leading innovator in creating and applying fingerprint authorization and verification technology. BII CEO Bob Kamin has announced that his firm has finished collaborating with I/O Software Inc. to integrate BII's ridge recognition algorithms and silicon fingerprint verification sensor technology with I/O Software's Biometric Application Programming Interface. BII'S Fingerprint Verification module using the silicon fingerprint scanner represents an innovation in the fingerprint verification industry. Prior to the development of the model Veriprint 1000/1100 using this technology, fingerprint solutions were based solely on optical technology. Integrating BII's technology with I/O Software's product line will create the industry's most secure log-on, file encryption and data protection available for user authentication electronic commerce and network security. 1/O Software's BAPI is designed to serve as a standard interface between all biometric devices and applications. The BAPI specification is expected to be published as a Request for Comment (RFC) by the International Standards Organization for possible ratification by the end of 1998. If ratified it will become the first open-standard Application Programming Interface (API) for biometric devices. BII has integrated I/O Software's SecureSuite product with its Veriprint 1000/1100 fingerprint systems. SecureSuite is a three in one software package that provides a suite of biometric security applications for Microsoft Window's 95/98, which include log-on, screen saver unlocking, file and folder encryption and a password bank utility. One of the many benefits of SecureSuite is that it has the consistent "look and feel" of the standard Microsoft Windows user interface, so installing and learning to use the software is quick and intuitive for the end-user. SecureSuite will also provide support for smart cards using readers compatible with the Microsoft PC/SC (Personal Computer/Smart Card) standard. The applications that comprise SecureSuite are: Secure Start - Secure log-on system for Windows 95/98. Allows users to log on to their workstations using their fingerprints and/or optional smart card to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the workstation. Secure Folder - Windows file/folder encryption application - Encrypts files and folders, and only allows access to them after authenticating the user's fingerprint. Secure Session - Windows password bank. Stores user name and password information for any Windows application, and releases it upon verification of a fingerprint. A user can simply place his or her finger on the fingerprint scanner when an application asks for a password. Additionally, SecureSuite features: Multiple Authentication Methods - The user can use any combination of fingerprint, password, and/or smart card to log on to the computer. Screen saver locking/unlocking - Locks your computer with a Windows screen saver, and lets you unlock it just by placing your finger on the fingerprint scanner. Windows look and feel - SecureSuite seamlessly integrates with Windows to maintain the same look and feel that users are already familiar with. Biometric features are smoothly integrated with minimal impact on the system.
