The man, whose nude ride through Andamarca recalled the medieval exploits of Britain's Lady Godiva, was surrounded by a group of about 20 women who prevented him from dismounting and forced him to wear a sign reading: ''This is how violent husbands are punished!'' The women told male spectators that they had a list of ten other husbands who faced the same fate if they did not stop beating their wives. According to legend, Lady Godiva's husband Leofric, earl of Mercia, agreed to ease the heavy taxes on the people of Coventry if she agreed to ride naked through town on a white horse.
