Speaking of the French. The following is from Alcatel's web site!

TELECOMS WEEK SHOW: ALCATEL RECEIVES THE "JURY'S SPECIAL PRIZE" FOR THE BEST
PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Alcatel: 1st supplier of mobile handsets in France in 1998
Paris, November 26, 1998 – On the occasion of the "Telecoms Week show"which is being held on Paris from
November 24 to 27, Alcatel has been awarded the "jury's special prize" for the best industrial performance of
the year for its range of GSM telephones. The jury consisted of journalists and professionals from the mobile
telecom sector.

Georges Rouilleaux, President of the Telecoms Week handed over the prize to Patrick Liot, president of
Alcatel's professional and consumer activities, in front of an audience of some one thousand professionals from
the telecommunications and mobile telephony sector.

"With almost 10% of the world's GSM mobile telephone market and over 40% of the French market, Alcatel is
now a leading player, commented Georges Rouilleaux. Thanks to the innovative, complete and highly varied
One Touch™ range, Alcatel has pushed forward the world of mobile telephony by proposing a telephone
dedicated to each type of user" commented Georges Rouilleaux.

"Mobile telephones are becoming an integral part of our social life, like fashion accessories, and they must
reflect our personality" stated Patrick Liot. "Surfing on the success of One Touch(TM) EASY, of which 6
million units were sold in the world, we have developed a range which combines performance and dedicated
functions with an increasingly carefully targeted design. 1998 sales of Alcatel GSM terminals will soon reach 8
million units, which is almost 3 times the 1997 figure. This has become possible thanks to the modernization of
our two production sites at Laval (Mayenne) and Illkirch (Alsace) which produce 50,000 mobile telephones per
day » he added.

The One Touch range features 4 new models: the One Touch(TM) MAX for adolescents, the One Touch(TM)
CLUB+ which comes in a range of metallized colours for a more conventional clientele, the One Touch(TM)
VIEW designed for users who are the most demanding in terms of user-friendliness, thanks to its large screen,
and finally the One Touch(TM) POCKET equipped with a vibrating call alerter and a modem, aiming at a more
professional market segment. This latter model will soon be available in an Internet Ready version which will
give owners access to on-line services.

A world leader in telecommunications systems and equipment, as well as related cables and components
activities, Alcatel operates in over 130 countries. Alcatel provides complete solutions and services to operators,
service providers, enterprises and consumers, ranging from backbone networks to user terminals.
