I'm not sure I follow you. Are you saying that people will want to have a 2000 model car instead of a 1999 model for vanity's sake? Something to consider, car models come out the year before. 2000 models at the latest appear in fall 1999. But anymore, they appear as early as the March before the year that they are numbered for.

If manufacturers think that the model year number is the key, they will certainly rush models out with 2000 as model year even if they are identical to 1999 models.

I don't know other areas where 2000 models will influence thinking on delaying purchases, but perhaps I am being dense.
