The market is considerable, if you believe that most would rather buy a $250 box first and a $5000 TV later.

I for one may buy a full blown TV for the theater room, but the 2 other TV's in the house get a settop box converter...

Futhermore, from what we've just witnessed in DVD, there is no significant volume market until you get them boxes down to the $250 price point.

As far as quality/performance...
people buy SoftDVD!

"Built into the browser" yeah sure then by that, you mean built into the OS... <g>

(ot) fred, hi again. i ahven't been up to date on reading the posts here, but i know that rarebird used to frequent this thread quite a bit. i was wondering if he amde a prediction for the market to go up so strongly in the last couple of months. he was into a large cash position wasn't he?

how's your gut feel for the first few months of '99? do we go past 10,000 or back down into the 8,000 range?

FRED,
I haven't seen the HDTV box yet but have heard about it. I would think that there would be a sizeable market since most people would buy the converters to see DTV and HDTV on existing tv's and wait for price reductions before going out and buying the Digital TV's.
Most people keep their tv sets a good 10 years.
