Thread,
there's a lovely typo in the Forbes article:

<< Rather than stick with a dying business, they moved into mainframe data storage in 1898,.... >> <g>

I'm long EMC at about $74 as of last Friday. The only regret I have is that I didn't look at it earlier already. My thinking is rather simple: data volumes continue to grow exponetially whereever you look and EMC is the dominant co. in this sphere (together with IBM).

Last I read a good very recent article on MS Investor about NTAP, but they mentioned at the end that EMC might pose stiff competition in the future. Also, EMC has higher margins and is the far bigger co. and something of an industry standard. Besides all that, valuation is slightly lower than NTAP, so this is why I bought EMC then.

I know that it's not a cheap stock, but I intend to hold EMC for the long term as long as the co. continues to manage their growth so well.
