A very good point for 99> The market force of IP telephony is rapidly "forcing international [switched-voice cost] accounting rates down to cost, which means we can't rely on rate arbitrage to build our business," he warns. This suggests the long-term prospects of everyone in IP telephony requiring a willingness to do battle on mainstream turf, which is why the experimentation in the offing in 1999 is so important. But, Evslin adds, experimentation must be targeted at immediate opportunities, not some long-range vision, if one is to survive to see the time when there really is a long term to talk about.
