Two pulley Block and tackle on a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood.Hook the B&T to the vehicle if it is a exterior enterance.Gives you double purchase.Oh yes and don't forget the rum for after.

We put in a new FHA oil furnace and due to regulations we had to disconnect the wood furnace. I took the wood furnace down to just the chambers and took it out piece by piece. Then I drank the absorbine junior and rubbed the rum all over myself.LOL

""How does one get a 6' hot water rad out of the basement. It has to weigh about 500 or 600 pounds. Has anyone ever hacked one of these things up with a sawzall.""

Scenario 1:
Drain the water, disconnect the pipes, make a frame of 2x4s around it, install drywall, tape the drywall, paint it and install a wood board on top. Now you can use it as a shelf for your TV, aquarium, etc.

Scenario 2:
Drain the water, disconnect the pipes, cap the holes, paint it, lay it down on its side, buy a glass table top and you get a cheap coffee table.

Scenario 3:
Drain the water, disconnect the pipes, cap the holes, paint it and leave it in the middle of the room as an $15,000 art object.

Scenario 4:
Put an ad in the 'Architectial Digest'..."1930 vintage 6' cast iron rad FOR SALE...asking $300. Who ever buys it will pay good dollar to remove it from your house and no sweat for you or your brother in-law.

Scenario 5:
Call a steel scrap guy. He'll do all the work for free and you might get $10 from him for the scrap (discounting his time and labour).

Scenario 6:
Buy beer and pizza, call your brother in-law and friends for a football party. Make sure that they all come 45 minutes before the game and that the pizza is hot and the beer is cold. Walk them by the pizza and beer, straight to the rad.

Scenario 7:
Use the sawzall, but make sure that you buy at least 10 blades.
