1989 was the last time I went to Kauai. The moment you stepped off the plane your embraced in the sweet smell of Plumeria's (Local flower). They call it the 'Garden Island'. The north shore has caves, pounding surf, Zodiac boat tours along the coast, a local night club, Mahi Mahi that is incredible.

Jurassic Park and The Lost World were filmed on that island. The scene with the little girl, at the beginning of Lost World is pictures of the North Shore. So is the helicopter flying to the island scene in Jurassic Park.

The most outrageously decadent hotel I have ever seen is on the Eastern Shore. Great night club area. The middle of the island has what they call the "Little Grand Canyon". It's not so little! You have to keep an eye out for wild boars. Rarely encountered but you don't want to run into one while your on foot.

There is a special stone garden. If I remember the custom right, you wrap a lava stone in a leaf (Can't remember the plant but the tree was right at that location) make a wish and a departing loved one will come back to stay. She was special to me.

Aloha,
