PaulM, What I find interesting is that, at the top of an incredible eight-year run of disinflationary expansion, we STILL didn't come into balance. From this point forward, without the help of inflation, the cost of servicing this debt, in real terms, has nowhere to go but up. In this regard, a book I read a long while back said there are but three possible outcomes for resolving America's debt: 1) US grows its way out of it -- recent history proves otherwise 2) US defaults on it, a la Russia -- this would be problematic 3) US inflates its way out of it -- painful, but most likely
