That AOL thing was announced some time ago...they could be doing more things like this.

I am astonished by these sales results. I should have expected it, but it tells you something about the power of a company like this and even mediocre execution of a business model like this. I wouldn't expect this success to abate, given certain key trends.

Higher-end products will continue to sell well in the US, in my view, even if a large number of consumers are squeezed in an economic downturn. Reason: when you are targeting the high end and have a solid niche there, you are tapping a market that is economically 'untouchable' short of a complete collapse of the world financial system.

Add in the fact that their products are gift-oriented and (in the future) internet marketed, and time-squeezed shoppers will continue to pay high premiums for The Sharper Image's gizmos and gadgets. This company is sitting pretty. Hope they improve their website sometime soon...it's not my cup of tea.
