Leading European Designer & Manufacturer of Memory Upgrades and PC Card Products to Add New Memory Production Line & Hire Additional Support Staff

AARHUS, Denmark, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth # L4848 -- Memory Card Technology (MCT), the leading European designer and manufacturer of memory upgrades and PC Card products, announces that it is dramatically increasing the scope of its U.S. operations in an effort to duplicate within the United States the dynamic success it has achieved in Europe.

Included in this expansion are plans to begin manufacturing memory in the new U.S facility by employing the same state-of-the-art production equipment currently in use at MCT's headquarters in Denmark. In addition, as a part of the new direction, the company's U.S headquarters have been moved from Phoenix, Ariz., to Carlsbad, Calif., and new staff is also being added to handle the expanded activities.

"We are very excited about this opportunity to expand our presence in the U.S. market," said John Trolle, President of Memory Card Technology. "Although we understand that competition in the U.S. is fierce, we are very confident that this expansion will put us in a position to become a major force in the U.S memory market."

Since its founding in 1992, Memory Card Technology, a publicly traded company, has achieved both an impressive growth rate and financial stability as well. According to Jeff Riggs, MCT's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, "MCT's achievements are particularly impressive given the difficult business climate that has prevailed in the memory industry over the past couple of years. Our success in Europe with key channel accounts and large OEM customers such as Toshiba, Fujitsu and Konica, along with the excellent financial health of our company, has put us in a position of strength from which we can more effectively penetrate the U.S. market."

While products manufactured by Memory Card Technology are already being used by some of the largest of the Fortune 500 companies in America, this expansion will allow for a much wider distribution and availability of MCT products in the U.S and Canada. "This strategic move will assure that our U.S. and Canadian customers will be quickly and properly supported," said Craig Yerkes, Managing Director for MCT in the United States and formerly of Kingston Technology. "To truly compete here in the U.S and meet our aggressive goals for growth, adding a manufacturing line and the additional support structure was absolutely necessary," added Mr. Yerkes. Besides the expanded production capabilities, technical support, purchasing, engineering and marketing functions will also be added to the U.S. office.

To ensure that its worldwide manufacturing operations will remain competitive in a rapidly changing industry, MCT has used its financial strength to make substantial investments in the latest, state-of-the-art assembly and test equipment. While costly, this equipment is necessary in order to produce and properly test the latest generation of memory products, such as PC100 compliant and other SDRAM based memory. In addition, the company recently invested both the capital and engineering resources needed to develop a business partnership with Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq: RMBS), a California-based developer of one of the latest high-speed memory device types, and an acknowledged new technology leader in the semiconductor industry.
