Beavis, I certainly agree about the "Do you feel lucky" line, I may have coined the usage in this context. Netscape does have the advantage that Com/Nav 4 can coexist with earlier versions. I run 4.5, my wife still uses 3.0.

Don't be too hard on Gerald, though. I get a little confused by all the straight faced devil's advocacy, but he's not in general a friend of Bill, at least historically. He and I are probably the main oldtimer holdouts here. This is mostly the only group I post to also, though I've spent too much time lately in less civil discussions. With all the "Microsoft hater" ad hominems I've absorbed over time, I thought I was prepared, but I didn't know what real abuse was.

Cheers, Dan.

If I understand your "natural monopoly" argument, you are saying that Microsoft is a natural monopoly and this benefits the consumer.

All I am doing is taking the government's own argument and turning it around on them, showing how they might just prove themselves right out of court.

I will also say that, as time passes, I am becoming more skeptical of the government's case. Microsoft sucks, but government intervention sucks more. Plus, in certain respects, the suit seems weaker than I originally expected. They certainly have the goods on Microsoft in terms of smoking gun memos, images of Chairman Bill looking bad in his depo, and the like, but in terms of the economic analysis, barriers to entry and the like, I see some real weaknesses. I feel it is only right to point those out.

I could be wrong, and, who knows, you may be the one to prove it. But, in any case, I'd prefer to find out here and now, and not from the D.C. Court of Appeals.

Did Bill put you in charge of this thread?

No more than he did you.
