BII if you are interested ... T =Internet Stocks Rising On High Volume Of Retail Trading By Lori McLeod TORONTO (Dow Jones)--Internet-related stocks are moving up on high volume comprised of fairly small-sized trades, Steve Horen, an analyst with Nationsbanc Montgomery Securities Inc., told Dow Jones. In Toronto, more than 1 million shares of online auction company Bid.Com International Inc. (T.BII) have changed hands in each of the past 11 consecutive trading sessions, including Friday. In that period, Bid.Com's share price has soared 284%. Bid.Com's 52-week intraday low is 0.56. In Toronto Friday, Bid.Com's shares are up 0.89 or 25% on the day, at 4.45, on volume of about 15 million shares. All of Bid.Com's trading volume Friday, with the exception of two blocks of 25,000 shares each, has been made up of smaller trades. While Horen doesn't follow Bid.Com, he noted U.S. Internet-sector companies, including Ebay Inc. (EBAY) and Onsale Inc. (ONSL), have been moving up mainly on day-trading and trades by individual investors as opposed institutional trading. Horen noted the run-up is "so dramatic" because electronic investors are piling up on the stocks, creating a "short squeeze" and driving share prices higher. On Nasdaq Friday, Onsale closed up 37 5/8, or about 63%, at 97 5/8, on volume of about 7.85 million shares. Onsale's 52-week intraday low is 10 5/8. Also on Friday, Ebay closed up 13 1/2, or 6.6%, at 218.00 on Nasdaq, on volume of about 1.17 million shares. Last Monday, Ebay's share price gained 46 or 31.3% on Nasdaq, to close at 193.00. Ebay's 52-week intraday low is 25 1/4. -By Lori McLeod; 416-943-7800 (END) DOW JONES NEWS 11-27-98 03:50 PM tlb
