hopes to pitch to U.S. cable operators...........,

I'm hoping that the whole CableNet demo based on the new AViA with the CANAL+, 3COM, MoreCom, Pioneer, and DIVI involvement will succeed in getting the attention of those cable honchos. Perhaps tight integration of the various features will help sell the whole
platform just as it's shown. Cable guys must want stuff that works without a lot of headaches. Next week should be interesting.

Then in early Jan we get ZiVA2 at CES! This is fun.

I like this sentance... Broadcom, TeraLogic, Equator
Technologies and ATI Technologies, relative newcomers to the back end of
the digital set-top box, are rushing products to market.

BRCM seems to have this omniscient aspect to it. That they see all things at all times and can be expert in cable modems, digital video, etc. Jealousy perhaps, but I hope they are mortals after all.

j, i like the feture set , particularly that they are looking at cable modems . still, re: the software spec:>>a software spec should be ready during the first half of 1999.<<
first half of 99 seems far off...

>>C-Cube's solution is also designed for two-way cable networks. Its integrated host CPU supports a media-access control layer for two-way networks, prepping the platform for two-way cable modems if connected with a separate physical-layer chip.<<

Sony was mentioned in this article as embracing AViA@TV
but Cube itself didn't announce it.
So do we have any confirmation on a Sony settop win?

In a related development, C-Cube will announce today a new digital set-top silicon platform of its own, designated AViA@TV. The platform, which the company hopes to pitch to U.S. cable operators, has already been embraced by Canal Plus, Sony and Pioneer, according to company officials.
