The initial trial will establish Nevada Bob's golf shops within Sears stores in Quebec City, Hamilton, St. Catharines and Edmonton. Based on the success of this test, the Nevada Bob's store-within-a-store concept will be rolled out to more than half the Sears stores across Canada. In addition, Nevada Bob's golf equipment, accessories and apparel will also be sold through special sections within selected Sears catalogues. The agreement pairs Canada's largest single department store with Canada's largest specialty golf retailer. "Sears is committed to offering our customers more selection, more service, and more brands," said Paul Walters, Sears Canada's Chairman and CEO. "The introduction of Nevada Bob's meets this commitment and fits our ongoing focus on expanding and enhancing the shopping experience for Sears customers." Nevada Bob's at Sears' shops will offer a broad range of golf equipment, accessories and apparel in shops staffed by Nevada Bob's sales professionals. A typical 'Nevada Bob's at Sears' shop will stock the many well-known national brands that Nevada Bob's is famous for. Mr. Walters noted that the 4.8 million Canadian golfers spend more than $1.5 billion a year on golf equipment, accessories and apparel. "Nevada Bob's at Sears is a response to customer demand," said Mr. Walters. "Consumers told us they want greater selection and choice, and strong, quality brands. 'Nevada Bob's at Sears' will offer them this variety and the peace of mind knowing they have purchased from Sears and Nevada Bob's. Both our companies have earned reputations for quality, service and guaranteed customer satisfaction," he said. Lyle Edwards, Nevada Bob's Canada President and CEO, said the partnership with Sears is a breakthrough in golf retailing. "Not only does this relationship significantly strengthen our national store network, but it introduces a new demographic - Sears catalogue customers - to Nevada Bob's." He noted that Sears publishes Canada's only general merchandise catalogues and distributes them to more than 4 million households across the country. "With this initiative, Nevada Bob's reaches into every corner of Canada to serve golfers wherever they live. It also positions both Nevada Bob's and Sears to capitalize on the tremendous growth profile in golf. Golf is projected to be the fastest growing sports activity in Canada through the year 2001," he said. "In its short history, Nevada Bob's has clearly set the standard for golf retailing across Canada," said Mr. Edwards. "Now we are taking our expertise and knowledge in golf retailing and combining it with the power and reach of Canada's leading department store so we can both capitalize on the tremendous opportunity in one of the highest growth areas of Canadian retailing, golf equipment, accessories and apparel. "We are establishing Nevada Bob's as the dominant name in golf and this relationship with Sears both expands our market coverage and represents an integral part of that positioning," said Mr. Edwards. Sears Canada (SCC - TSE, ME), with annual revenues of almost $5 billion, has 109 full-line department stores, 19 Whole Home Furniture and Appliance stores across Canada and publishes the country's only general merchandise catalogue. More than 1,800 catalogue pickup locations, 10 outlet stores and 82 dealer stores complete Sears Canada's retail network.
