What are you talking about? Hitachi never came close to IBM's share in mainframes. At best, they were a niche player, using IBM's CMOS technology for their mainframes over the past few years. As a matter of fact, Hitachi's best days as a mainframe vendor are probably now behind them. They made a good play over the past few years with their 'Skyline' series of hybrid bipolar/CMOS mainframes simply because they offered more 'per engine' MIPS than the all CMOS IBM machines. The IBM G5 has reached bipolar performance levels, so the 'advantage' goes away...
