Morgy, I think when it comes down to it, it's the fees and taxes that are the culprits. Airlines have more expenses and an extra tax for non-domestic travel due to Clinton. Because of booming yard sale markets here, some clothing can be obtained cheap and some can be found still in the wrapper. I realize it's living on the low end but everybody seems to do it around here. K-mart still gives some good markdowns but you're right about the quality suffering. Made in Sri Lanka you know. Gas is 96.9 a gallon here. Last year farmers here threw away much of the potato crop--prices were so low, and still are. Look for coffee below $5 a 34 oz can before the current glut is over ($6 now). Don't tell me--not in NYC. Pumpkins and squash are cheap this year. Silver is cheaper too. I think for people hanging on, at least in my area, you can get by cheaply if your health holds out. If you're trying to get ahead or live it up you better have a good job. --Al
