"Tried placing or taking a wireless call from a trade show
floor lately? If you've had problems, you're not alone.
When hundreds of pay-phone haters all try placing calls
from a single venue, the result is often hundreds of
frustrated customers."

The Minicell basestation by Nortel will help, but they will still have to manage spikes in demand. Unless 'Babe', the basestation, has a busy time escalating price feedback mechanism to the customer, so they can decide to call later if the price is too high, the customer is doomed to remain disconnected or have their calls dropped in busy times. Or they will have to build in so much capacity that the normal price will make systems too expensive. Even GSM might be cheaper. Competition is great and the manufacturers who are late to offer the service will lose sales. I wonder if it will be QUALCOMM which will lose sales.

Gregg, any idea on whether QUALCOMM is up with the play on this? It'll be even more important with cdma2000.
