If the market is really moving fast and I HAVE to get in, I would place a market order via ARCA. I don't normally use market orders but have in a few cases. I have also put orders in via ARCO or ISLD at 1/8 over the current bid to get a fill when the market is really moving fast. Normally though, an order put in at the ask will get filled unless the stock is really flying.

On slow moving stocks I put my orders in at the bid and probably get filled half the time. It's nice when you can get filled at the bid because then you have already beat the spread and can immediately put it out at the ask if you want to do a quick scalp.
