To short INTC is to loose focus of the bigger picture of what this company is for the future of technology.
Not sure what you mean. Intel as it is currently configured is as bad for the hardware industry as Microsoft is for the software industry. Whatever their PR tells us, the fact is that the sheer size of both these companies is now stifling innovation in the industry.

But no position is unassailable. That both Microsoft and Intel will stumble a some point in the future is an inevitability. The key questions are
- when will the events it happen?
- will their declines be sufficiently steep to warrant taking short positions?

IMO betting against Intel over the Christmas period would be stupid. I reckon all the chip sellers are going to do well. However, I will be thinking seriously about it after the next quarterly results (assuming they are not excessively negative in their guidance and the stock price holds up.)

I see it as a simple call.
- AMD are producing competetive processors at a competetive price and Intel cannot hold onto the near-monopolistic profit margins they have enjoyed in the past
- I hear rumors that the PC makers have been overstocking on inventory to avoid shortages over Christmas which, if true, will compound Intel's profit margin problems with an order shortfall in the next quarter.

I have no argument with that.

But The Pretender obviously feels a need to SHORT Intel - and thereby increase his losses.

Many addicted Gamblers have this same attitude - to LOSE at all costs !
