"CPQ wins award
by: optomistsoptomist 43641 of 43645

Just got my Dec.98 copy of Home Office Computing. They gave awards to the top 100 home office standouts, bargains, and innovations of 1998.

In the High-Value Desktop PC catagory the Micron Millennia 450 won gold. However, the CPQ Presario 5150 got silver and the article stated that had it came with "Office" rather than "Works" it would have won the gold award.

The magazines Editor In Chief confided that he "gave Compaq's Presario 5150 the rarest honor in the industry, the "Bought By Editor With His Own Money Award" !!........

Mentioned as the Technology Of The Year is the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance standard (HomePNA), called HomeRun. A technology so new that no products built around it had yet shipped but that should hit the market around Xmas.

What this does for the home office is allow swapping of files between PC's, or share the printer or modem with the fastest internet connection.

It does not interrupt normal phone service, interfere with web surfing, crash when the phone rings or someone picks up an extention. Perhaps best of all, it does not require any new wiring. Just plug into you phone jack.

The adapters are expected to cost less than $100. in ISA, PC Card, or USB. They are Plug and Play simple.

The technology has been endorsed by Intel, IBM, 3Com, and yes, Compaq.
..........Will it be an add-on to the CPQ computer systems that buyers can choose ? Will CPQ be the first to arrive at the market with it available ? "
