Why all the confusion over the Q phones and markets. Easy to understand if you know what the phone is and what the carrier really does.

Sprint is ONLY 1900, the old Q phone is single mode, 1900 only, so Sprint buys only that one.

Primeco is dual BAND, but only due to it's parentage, which is a major ownership stake from the older cellular carriers, hence Primeco has a nice roaming agreement with them and offers the QCP-2700, which is dual BAND, i.e. 1900 PCS and 800 cellular AMPS only. This allows their customers to roam over to AMPS when PCS is not available.

Dual MODE Q phone is intended for digital cellular carriers who also have AMPS. Hence cellular carriers like Airtouch, BAMS offer dual mode phones like the 800 Mhz dual mode Q phone.

so the bottom line is....don't look for Sprint to offer the dual mode Q phone and don't look for Airtouch to offer the 1900 Q phone.....

Definitions -

Dual Mode - has both digital mode and AMPS mode in a single frequency band. Modes defines the type of modulation it can do.

dual band - Has dual radio in it to allow it to access both 1900 Mhz and 800 Mhz frequency BANDS. In the Qualcomm case, it is 1900 Mhz digital and 800 analog.

(if you see dual mode, dual band - then it can do both 800 and 1900 Mhz frequency and both digtial and analog modes....)

(Note: after reading the press release on Sanyo, I take it back...I guess Sprint is eyeing the dual BAND market....)
