I'm sure you're right about cable modems being a huge growth area. The one thing that might allow TCI to get my business back would be cable modem service. So far it's not available in my area, but they have announced plans to convert to digital service (fiber optics, I think). I bet the pent-up demand is enormous

Richard, my cable company is Media One, and IMHO they are a bunch of whores. My basic cable bill has gone from $15 eight years ago to $30 today. They only reason I use them is because I have no choice if I want CNN, CNBC, sporting events, etc. Still, the day cable modems became available, I signed up. They are phenomenally fast, and I actually save $3/month. Now I don't need an ISP or an extra phone line. Further, I suspect that competition in this business will keep prices down because of competing technologies being developed.

You're right, the pent-up demand is enormous.
