Maybe you were right next to me, TLC, and I didn't know it? Cream and Santana, Lead Zep and the Stones, Jimi.... How could anyone argue? But I do beg to differ on Big Brother and the later incarnations of Janis. Sometimes it all came together.

>>Top 15 live rock shows (in this order, the original bands): Mothers, Zep, Stones, Jimi, Little Feat, Floyd, ZZ, Genesis, Arthur Brown, Cream, Velvet Underground, Van Halen, Canned Heat, Santana. <<

I can only deduce from this that, one, you have a hard time counting, unless you are counting one of the bands twice due to a form of acid-induced schizophrenic behaviour on the parts of one of them, and two, you have never seen or heard Chicago play live in the early Seventies at Madison Square Garden.

Oh, well, if you are talking about LIVE bands, who can compare to Jimi Hendrix? Although, and I am certainly giving away my age here, there was a time, not a long time, but a fine time, where you couldn't go wrong with It's A Beautiful Day, Mountain, and Bloodrock ("D.O.A.") live.

If you are not talking live, hey, no one mentioned Brian Eno. But I guess he isn't really a band. Other great individuals, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Daniel Lanois.

Hey, did anyone mention the Beach Boys?

The Who put on a great concert too. Saw 'em back when laser lights were new. Awesome!

TLC,

Agreed. The Stones gave the best live concert (and I saw them all). The best I remember was at SMU in Dallas around 1970. The warmup was by Chuck Berry, dancing and playing his heart out. Then Mick pranced on in a red bodysuit with huge gold Leo symbol on his chest and sporting a cape. The entire audience stood up en masse - and, get this, no one ever sat down throughout the entire concert. Everyone was high as a kite with joy, or whatever!

Also saw the Velvet Underground play in the park on the first "Earth Day" ever. They could make you feel like you were in a blacklight cave in broad daylight! Great!

Also, a few favs I failed to mention in my previous post: Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Santana, Jimi.
