I completely agree with your post. I also think McNealy is a loser, but mostly because I come from manufacturing where Sun is a total joke. This in contrast to Dell and even to a lesser extent Compaq who are starting to produce products that are leaning into the Sun space. However I think you are correct Sun does have some good things going on, I am wrong to discount them.

The real difference between Sun and msft/dell etc. I think has been consistency over the years. Sure once in a while intc or somebody will make a mistake, but in general, msft intc and dell have been consistent performers. Not Sun. Example in 1994 SGI was literally killing Sun at the high end. SGI was a niche player how could that have happened? Blunders are the rule vs the exception I find there. However right now Sun seems to be doing some things right, Ill give them credit.
