"I am curious about the nature of your strategy for
dealing with this sequence of events"

In order of importance, more or less:

--keeping healthy and building up savings and retirement income
--keeping out of debt, including mortgage debt
--cash in the bank
--BEARX, the Prudent BEAR fund
--some gold and gold and silver mining stocks
--maintain position in oil stocks, drilling equipment, royalty trusts, despite disastrous experience in that area over the last year.

Looking forward some day to getting back into common stocks, when P/Es, yields, and book values are back at or below historical norms, at which point I will probably buy discounted closed-end funds again as I did during the period 1974-1982.
