WWF + Channel Checks
by: Quitman_Fulmer

I did some limited channel checks here in Charleston and found the following:

Babbage: First shipment of Revenge sold out very quickly (about 25 each the sales person thought). Second shipment is also selling extremely well. Rugrats for PSN selling very well. They just got them in (he wouldn't tell me qty). I was there Friday about 2:00 pm and he said they had sold 7 each already. I forgot to ask about Gameboy.

Walmart: They sold out the first shipment (25 they thought) when they first came in. They have not yet gotten a resupply. Additionally, they have not yet received ANY Rugrats as of today (Saturday). This is very disappointing. I thought sure Walmart had a better distribution system than this. They had tons of WARZONE. THQ is misssing sales BIG TIME here. I hope this problem is limited to my area. If most parents are like me, many of these sales will be lost for good. My daughter gives me her list and if there are 2 or 3 videos or CD's on it, I don't go from store to store looking. I will buy only those I find at the store I'm in. Thus, if Revenge or Rugrats is not there, those parents (like me) will buy a substitute. Not very good!

Toys R US: I can never get any help in this store. I was there several weeks ago and was told Revenge was selling very well. While there, I estimated that there were probably 20-25 "take one" inventory slips. While there yesterday, there were only 5-6 remaining, plus there could have been reorders, but I don't know that. I could not find any Rugrats PSN, but did find Rugrats Gameboy, a few remaining.

OH, I just remembered. I have seen Quest64 at several stores (Walmart, Babbage, Best Buy) over the last few weeks at a still nice price of $50. Reorders of this title might add more than most of us would have guessed. GRAVY!

That's it for now.

Is anyone concerned that when the internet bubble bursts, the entire market will crater, taking down our jewel with it. I am very concerned. That is the only problem I see that will prevent THQ from going to the next level. If the market holds up, and after some backing and filling, IMO THQ can easily move to the $35-$40 range during the month of December. That would only be 18-20 times next year's (conservatively) projected earnings. I also believe that Brian F. will have some positive surprises for us related to new partnerships, GameFX, etc. between now and during Q1.(THat's just my gut feeling)

The best is yet to come with this company.

Sales are amazing. More great channel checks from the AOL board:

Channel check (Follow up from Friday) at Best buy...Nitro is selling very well...8 sold in 2 days. Revenge (3 on Friday) is sold out of course, NWO has sold ? amount...at least 4 though. Rugrats has been restocked to 23 in the store now...no one knew how many have been sold...Rugrats GB Sold out from 6 previously, Bass Masters actually sold 4 copies in the last 2 days. My assessment--all games are selling very quickly, THQ's games as well.
Revenge is well-understocked at the local stores here with uncertain dates to receive more...WWF is always in Excellent supply.

Visited the following this Sunday PM: an EB,
TRU, Wallmart, and KB. Traffic was best at
the TRU and Wallmart, much less so in the
EB and KB which were in a mall.

Wallmart: Rugrats PSX sold at least 75 on
Black Friday alone and demand was "constant", according to the manager. Revenge sold out Friday and has been restocked. Revenge had two locations and I saw 1 sale in the 5 minutes I was there. Mulan 7, World Tour 4, Quest 10 also in
two locations, Brunswick 8.

TRU: Revenge Sold Out - had 30 Friday,
World Tour 15, Quest 12 in two locations -
about half the amount I saw Friday for Quest, Rugrats PSX Sold Out - had 13 Friday but I don't know the initial shipment, (clerk said everything Rugrats is selling), Ray Tracers PSX Sold Out, WCW World PSX 5, Nitro PSX 20, Devil Dice 9 ( This was stocked since Friday when they had 4) G Darius 6, Brunswick SNES 8, Gameboy: Mulan 8,
Small S. - Sold out, Rugrats 15. FWIW
Zelda was sold out. Lots of action in the
games section both equipment and software.
Little action at both EB and KB. Clerks seemed unfamiliar with both stock and sales.
Rugrats was not in KB, but RR Playstation was in EB.

The wife and I went to TRU in Montebello, CA today and found the following:

N64
Quest: 3 copies left after a fairly large re-stock during this 4th quarter (had to be fresh shipments from THQ this quarter that will show up in earnings.)
NWO: 2 copies in after at least one other substantial restock since the price cut.
Revenge: 7 and I don't really know how many restocks there have ben but I've marked them now.

PSX
Rugrats: They don't have a display for it (as Shillingto has also noticed). I asked and they are not only in the back but they haven't even made tickets for it yet even though it is in the national mailer I received days ago. One clerk even told me the game was only available in GB.
DD: 1 previously marked copy from weeks ago.
GDarius: 2 copies from a new shipment since the last time a marked 2 weeks ago.
Nitro: 1
World: 0
Granstream: 5 copies from original shipment of 12 back in June.
Brunswick: 2 from original shipment of 12 or so.

GB
Small Soldier: sold out
Mulan: 8 left from original shipment.
Rugrats: sold out

Yonkers,NY-Sunday Nov 29.

Software Etc.-Rugrats moving well. Not a blowout but well.Revenge was sold out earlier today and expect more on tuesday.
Dragons Den-moving real well.Still had an ample supply but sales have been brisk.Salesman estimated origional order around 80 with about 10 still on shelf.Store was too crazy busy(as I am sure all have experienced this weekend)to push for details.Sold out of Revenge yesterday.More on tuesday.
Toys-R-Us-once again I ran into two ladies restocking the shelves and they were polite and eager to answer any questions. It would seem TRU in my area knew they had an employee attitude problem and have gone out of there way to straighten it out.I have ran into more courtious help in my last 2 CC's than I have in the last 3 years. One lady summed up pretty well-They all come right here from the movies looking to buy it for PSX or
Gameboy.Restocking on a daily basis. They were restocking as I left and two people on check out had the PSX game.
Will try Kaybee in a day or two.Store is too small and was too crowded.
------------

My comments? Everything is selling. It's video game mania out there. Revenge and Rugrats are selling great and Nitro, NWO, Quest, BASS, and Brunswick are all doing quite well. 75 Rugrats PSX in one Wal-Mart, in one day? That amazes even me and I had big expectations.

What I like is that THQ has two more big hits coming out this week. Nitro PC is likely due on Tuesday, though the Gamelord site (Babbages and Software Etc.) still says Monday. I wouldn't be surprised to see the press release come out tomorrow, actually. And then Bug's Life gameboy ships Friday.
