Now Dipy, you and I both know that by the time the 2000 elections come around, this will all be ancient history.

Not if this drags on until the end of 1999!

And Gore need not distance himself from the Clinton legacy, because by and large, the people are in favor of the President's policies. They do understand very well that Gore cannot be held accountable for what the President did in his private life.
