Zeuspaul, My recent purchases were a DELL 450 and a Compaq Armada 4120 notebook. I never use the software that is bundled with the system. Most of it old versions of software any ways. (or at least last years edition)

I like to do a complete re-install of the OS once I receive the computer to eliminate all the MS crap on the HD.

I was thinking very serious about building my own computer before I bought my Dell 450, but when I priced out the EXACT components, it was still a bit cheaper to buy it from Dell and receive the 3 year warranty.

Dell was very good to me last time around with a Dell 166, it was a little over a year old, I took out my CD-ROM and sold it to a friend, a 1-2 weeks later it failed. I told Dell the hole story, and they replaced it. How many companies would give that kind of service?

actually putting one together yourself is not as difficult as one might think.
hmmn; I did put a new chip in my old PS1, & followed directions to do my (now defunct due to 2 monitors) networking setup, & put in the cards etc. for the 2 monitor setup so I may be semi-tech:-) In any case - 1) will read Clarence's posts & 2) definitely go for an ABIT BH6 motherboard in what is put together.
Have also been noting references to the Viewsonic monitor as the, uh, cream de la cream (sorry) & will be checking into that when I have a port for a 3rd monitor. Tho will probably use an old one at first. What seemed important was just to get up a 3rd screen, but I'm beginning to focus on the fact that a big monitor can show more stuff.
Really agree about those "valuable" software bundles on the brand-name machines.
A wonderful source here.
Thank you & best wishes. D.A.
