whip, i'm thinking fedex may be a good way to play the nets as they will make money, guaranteed. fedex, not the nets ;-) is rps public or private? they are a subsidiary, right? of whom?

are there any other small guys out there trying to make a go of the shipping business?

btw, fedex is poised for a strike after xmas. that will be the time to buy, if at all..

Whipster, Federal Express would seem to be a benficiary, but I don't really seeing it catching on. My guess is that most things bought on the internet will be stuff like software that can be transferred electronically. Or, something like a Dell computer where you are going to pay through the nose for shipping in any case. Things like books and CDs will only sell if the prices are low enough to beat shipping costs. And I don't think there will be a lot of clothes shopping, except for maybe t-shirts or something generic like that. The one advantage, right now, is beating sales tax. But if the Net shopping catches on, a VAT will soon be in our future.

Basically, the business the net is going to pick up is either tech related, like software, or just transferred from catalogue buyers. That should mean little growth for the shippers who already carry the catalogue stuff.
