i'm sure you know this already, but just in case.....your ISP can adjust the connect time for your account.

GTE may have such an option but I do not think so. I recall reading something in their documentation about 10 minutes...and they have enforced it strictly. I only use GTE as my backup ISP since ATT gives me 150 hrs a month and only disconnects me on rare occasions. GTE now only gives me 100 Hrs. Sometimes the disconnects freeze my computer requiring a cold boot.

I usually keep a browser window open and refresh it manually every five minutes or so if I am reading or posting.

What is mIRC?

I am trying to become less dependent on a particular ISP. With email and home pages one can become dependent on an ISP. With an email forwarding service and an independent web hosting service coupled with a personal domain I should be able to say thanks but no thanks to an ISP that is more interested in disconnecting me than giving me service.
