I was just shopping at Borders book store. It's merely anecdotal, I know, but I have the strong impression they're expanding their Unix and Linux sections at the expense of the Windows section, and that much of the added Unix material is Solaris-specific. The Java section is also large.

Every time I go, they seem to have a better selection of Unix books.

I recently went to the Borders in my area (SF North Bay), and was unable to FIND any of the Unix related books I was looking for. There were lots of empty spots in the Unix section. They *did have a very large Java section. Gone are the days of comparing the Java section size to the Active X section size. Clearly, Java has HUGE developer mindshare.

I'm going to Union Square (SF) next weekend. I'll be going to the Borders there. I think I'll just find the tech book buyer/person and *ask about the mindshare dynamics (trends) related to tech book sales.

I noticed that Costco has among their rudimentary computer book selections, not one but *two MCSE box sets. I don't know WHAT to make of THAT. :)
