But, keep in mind that you may have a type 1, non-margin, account and if your broker did not demand delivery of good paper after you bought your DCI shares then in effect it does not make any difference what so ever.

Joe, this is the point that's being overlooked here in the discussions about whether or not DCTC shares can be borrowed for shorting. I think it's been made fairly clear that the shares cannot be legally borrowed in the U.S., but the merits of the "cert call" must be viewed in the light of your statement above. If the brokerage house is not forced to take delivery of the shares, then we can't really be sure how they are being used.
