Dug:

Nortel has more than one solution for DSL. The 1 meg modem nicely retrofits an EXISTING Nortel central office voice swtich with a reasonably high bandwidth data modem (this traffic is groomed away from the voice switch via an ethernet interface over to a router and into the internet); the UE-9000 is a DSLAM-like device that has both voice and data switches in it. It is meant to work as a POP device as well as in the Central Office. It does not need to go in front of a Nortel Switch. Of course, you will find it hosting all different kinds of DSL. As well, 1 Meg modem is available now, the UE is next gen and available in 1999.
