Yousef & AMD Investors - Intel licenses Slot 1 Chip Set to VIA Technologies.

VIA has even agreed to pay ROYALTIES to INTEL !

Looks like VIA doesn't want to be isolated selling only K7 chip sets!

By the way - anybody remember if VIA "agreed" to pay AMD royalties on the K7 chip set stuff?

Taiwan VIA Tech in licence agreement with
Intel

TAIPEI, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Taiwan's VIA Technologies Inc said on Monday it had signed a licencing agreement with U.S. computer chip maker Intel (Nasdaq:INTC - news) to produce platform components for Pentium II processors.

Intel has agreed to give licencing rights to computer chipmaker VIA to produce Slot 1, a component which acts as an interface between the microprocessor and the personal computer, a company statement said.

Under the agreement, VIA will pay Intel royalties and grant Intel a licence under VIA's patents, it said.

The statement did not release the amount of royalties that would be paid or specify which VIA patents it would share with Intel.

Founded in 1987, VIA is scheduled to become a listed company on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in the first quarter of 1999.
