powerdown.

Not true. I have an ATI Pro Turbo (Rage II chip) running
a Sony 200sf that powers down very nicely under NT, just
the way I tell it to (first standby, then sleep) with the
standard APM screen saver that comes with NT. Not
exactly sure what you mean by "by default." I would expect
to need a little software in the loop <g>. Your
excerpt from my earlier post had a little more than you
quoted:

>>...My 21" is on a Matrox millenium which, for the life
of me, I can't get to go into power saver mode in NT
(it did under Win 95). Since it's easy to push the off
button, I have not pursued this aggressively. My 17" on
an ATI card goes nicely into power-saver mode

(Emphasis added.) Maybe you weren't paying attention <GGG>.

I haven't pursued the Millenium because it just hasn't popped
to the top of my priority list, but it's definitely possible
under NT. One of these days I'll get around to ragging
Matrox about it.

BTW, when Win95 came out my (new at the time) ATI Mach 32
wouldn't enter power saver mode. ATI said the Mach 32 used a
a power saver method which 95 did not support. BUT they
swapped it for a Mach 64 for a nominal price, about $70-$75.
Doesn't sound so nominal now, but at the time the
Mach 64 (VRAM version) was selling for well over $300
(I think I paid about 150 for the Mach 32). ATI is
definitely on my list of good guys.
